Time to Integrate Advanced Project Planning into Process Safety: Can We Reduce Cost and Improve Safety?

Process safety managers have been struggling to make a case for adding new safety barriers to standard operating procedures. The marginal cost of adding the barriers cannot be justified by reduced likelihood of the events that are highly unlikely to start with. This is particularity visible when there is drop in price of oil & the operating margin is reduced. Can one then reduce cost & improve safety risks? Yes. Project planning is all about improving predictability of the events (read: Improve safety) and improving the efficiently (read: Reduce cost).
